I need to read a good book. I mean, a really good book. And not one that was written more than 100 years ago. And not one that's popular just because it's easy to read... or difficult to read. I was talking about this last night with a friend--I can't remember a recent time that I was really moved by a book.
I'm not saying I need to read something that's heart-breaking like that, but I am looking for something that makes me think or challenges me and makes me connect to the book. I know that's asking a lot, but you're all smart people.
What's a good book that you've read in the last few years?

I hear you! I haven't read any fiction in a long time. I have been reading mostly non-fiction.
It just so happens that I decided to pick up a book that's been teasing me on my shelf for a few years. I just read, "The Kitchen God's Wife." I laughed, gasped, and cried. I really enjoyed it. It was refreshing.
try The Night Circus. I loved it. rich and arresting but in a weird, slow, lovely way.
Monsters in Florence.
How about the Great Gatsby? It's very NY based.
i've got my name on the waitlist for the night circus at the library. unfortunately, neither kitchen god's wife nor monster of florence are on the list of eBooks for my library. :(
I read gatsby in high school.
Try Colleen McCullough's 'The Thorn Birds'. It's an epic and it's unput downable. It was made into a TV serial with Rachel Ward and Richard Chamberlain.
I could not stop thinking about the story long after I'd finished it.
